Harvest 2021 is complete.
One month earlier than most seasons, harvest 2021 is all done.
After a very cold spring when conditions were not ideal, the warm summer weather resulted in a good crop of spring barley and a better than normal yield of straw, harvested in dry, sunny conditions.
All the home grown product will be used on farm over the winter to feed the Aberdeen Angus beef cattle and to cut out any expensive bought in feed being required.
The next job on the farm is to get the cover crops in the ground on the stubble fields. We do not want bare fields over the winter leading to soil erosion and a lack of habitat for wildlife. Hopefully, if the weather is kind and we get good growth we will be able to keep the cattle out longer grazing the crops being sown.
