Assistant Manager Sean had a very busy week working with the Amazone Catros discs sowing 40 acres of cover crops.
Benefits of cover crops include, improving soil structure, increasing organic matter, suppressing weeds, preventing soil erosion and providing food for the animals and sheep.
We have been sowing these crops now for four years and have seen a benefit in the following spring sown crop every year.
Our strategy on the farm is too reduce reliance on chemical weed killers and bought in fertilizer. Cover crops have an important part to play in achieving this goal.
