This week we are busy getting some of the trees in our Britannia Wood felled.
It's a little known fact that despite owning the land and the trees, permission to fell them is required from government .
We have our felling permission to thin 10% of the woodland area with the felled timber being processed here and used in the farm log boiler after a period of drying.
The conifer trees were planted in 1994 and the decision to plant them along with an area of hardwood trees has proved to be one of the best decisions taken in recent decades. We aim to continue to manage the woodland sensitively to maximise the output and create a safe space for wildlife and the many butterflies present on the wood edge in summer.
